dc.description.abstract | A large number of training institutes and performance spaces and Indian classical dance studios are coming up at every nook and corner of the world, but unfortunately because of the pattern of blindly copying, building such spaces is typically achieved by imitating them. Classical Indian dance like Kuchipudi has clear historical roots in India, and has undergone considerable transformation over time. Contemporary dancers have always turned to the origins for guidance and advancement in their profession. Similarly, architecture has the potential to be more significant, by taking influence from tradition. Both the dancer and the architect control spaces, a dancer through the movement of the body and an architect through the nature of the built forms. The aim is, therefore, to explore the evolution of Indian classical dance form Kuchipudi over time from the beginning and, at the same time, to explore the vernacular architecture and traditional Indian construction that developed over time to reflect the natural, economic, technical and historical contexts in which it exists. Purpose is to identify the requirements of Kuchipudi's Present Day performance and pedagogical space and propose a complex design ideology which can stand as a landmark of contemporary culture, yet reflect strongly the roots of its origin. | en_US |
