Abstract: | Grasslands are rich biodiverse biomes that exist throughout the earth and are characterized by large, rolling terrains of extensive grasses, flowers and herbs, expanding across millions of square miles. These grasslands are critical for the survival of many endangered species and a great source of ecosystem services that balances the environment. Apart from their diverse character they are often considered as wastelands and rapidly degrading due to change in land use patterns and traditional practices of people. Due to the degradation and loss of grasslands species Great Indian Bustard are on a verge of extinction in today’s time and requires immense attention towards their habitat conservation The questions which are needed to be addressed through this thesis are firstly how we can protect these species’ habitat, not only in the high priority areas but beyond the protected boundaries and prevent their extinction. Secondly how the rich biodiverse grassland ecosystems can be conserved and what can be done. Thirdly, as we live in a human dominated system, how an integrated community-based conservation and management approach can be established for the grassland and its species protection. |
