Abstract: | The railway industry has been a reliable service provider in India for over a century, playing a significant role in connecting people across the country and enabling it to compete effectively in the global market. Even today, rail transportation remains the most cost-effective and practical means of transportation within cities. However, as cities and urban areas have developed, railway stations have not been designed with sustainability or future needs in mind, and they are still perceived as dirty and overcrowded places simply to board trains. Railway stations represent an untapped resource in the Indian economy, with the potential to generate revenue and act as catalysts for the development of surrounding areas. This thesis seeks to redevelop the existing Jaipur Railway Station into a modern station, integrating all the transportation systems in the area through a place-node development model. The aim is to create a gateway into the city, serving as a third place that combines transit and the city, while minimizing environmental impact and generating dialogue with the surrounding city. The Ministry of Railways has recommended a major redevelopment / upgrade of Jaipur Railway Station. The Ministry of Railways has tasked Rail Land Development Authority with carrying out the project of Major Upgradation of Jaipur Railway Station. |
