Abstract: | Temporal activities and tourism networks are parallel to the Everyday life activity networks but, these networks are clashing at certain points. Reframing of incompatible activity network, Enhancement in the public places and public buildings and will create a better quality of environment for the people. Exploration of the cultural acts and values of indigenous liabilities need to explore through the public realm strategies, which is missing tint in haphazard development. The historic major buildings are in the core area of the city were protected within the fortified wall. The buildings under gone several changes in appearance and buildings uses, and the wall have broken down slowly. The new urban development perspective is changing the perceptions of the historic core in the structure of ordinary. It is connected to the surrounding by other means of network like tourism and public activities related to the everyday life. "We observe what always has been with us-not to discover, much less to invent, but to recognize...N.J.Habraken". Recognition of character is needed for future time to project the Kolhapur as a city of rich culture in the transformation processes. Structure of the ordinary is to be understood for the changing trends of urban form. The thrust is to strengthen public realm in core area and explore cultural importance for the growth of the city by addressing the people acts of everyday life activities and temporal activities network. The five elements of the city which are stabilizer, splendid terraces, memorable streets, potentially interminable set pieces, and ambiguous and composite buildings as per book collage city by Colin Rowe and Fred Koetter, these elements are taken as basis for the intervening in the historical Kolhapur city. The process of transformation will continue with reference to these identified elements. It will result in proliferation of tourism, exploration of culture and effective appreciation of public realm. The social, cultural, economic and environmental values will be enhanced in whole process. |
