Abstract: The project "Beyond Classrooms: Designing School Spaces for Holistic Learning" reimagines school environments with a child-centric design tailored to different age groups. It aims to create dynamic, flexible spaces that support the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of students. The literature review highlights the evolution from traditional classroom-centric designs to versatile, age-appropriate learning environments. Studies show that flexible spaces with natural lighting, outdoor areas, and collaborative zones enhance student engagement and well-being. Influential theories from educators like Maria Montessori emphasize the importance of the environment in experiential learning and holistic development, particularly when adapted to different developmental stages. This thesis explores designing school spaces that respond to the needs of students of different age groups through carefully designed environments. By understanding the developmental needs, educational requirements, and context, these learnings are applied to design age-appropriate, child-centric spaces, employing principles of adaptive design and natural integration. The final design features adaptive learning environments, natural elements, and flexible spaces. The design process involved extensive site analysis, and iterative design development. The proposed design fosters holistic development, promoting student well-being and success across different age groups by creating flexible, engaging spaces.
