Abstract

This thesis project explores the design of a cultural museum dedicated to the Gondwana tribe, a prominent indigenous community of Gondwana region, situated in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The museum aspires to serve as a repository and educational hub, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions of the Gond people. The architectural design draws inspiration from Gond art and cosmology, incorporating traditional motifs, materials, and spatial configurations. The narrative unfolds through a series of interconnected galleries, each focusing on a specific aspect of Gond culture, such as their creation myths, social structures, rituals, and artistic expressions. Interactive exhibits, multimedia installations, and performance spaces will engage visitors and foster a deeper understanding of the Gond way of life. Sustainability principles are embedded within the design, utilizing locally-sourced materials and employing passive cooling techniques to minimize the environmental footprint. The museum structure itself is envisioned as a contemporary interpretation of vernacular architecture, harmonizing with the local context and creating a welcoming space for the Gond community and visitors alike.
