Abstract: Situated in the Puri district of Odisha, Raghurajpur was declared a 'heritage village' in 2000. Despite this recognition, the village faces significant challenges in preserving its rich legacy. With 750 residents across 160 Odia families, Raghurajpur is renowned for various crafts, including Talapatra Chitra, Bhittichitra, Ganjappa, Pattachitra, Tussar paintings, stone and wood carvings, coir craft, and paper-mâché toys and masks. The village portrays Hindu mythological stories through intricate paintings and the traditional Gotipua dance. Residents struggle with overcrowded living conditions, inadequate infrastructure, and financial stress despite government funding. Youth outmigration and inefficient institutional frameworks threaten traditional craftsmanship. As a tourism hub, Raghurajpur faces environmental issues from increased tourist traffic. Broader markets and modern technology integration present further challenges. The village and neighboring communities share common facilities and celebrate cultural events, fostering cohesion. However, economic instability and market competition threaten the artisans' livelihoods and deter younger generations. The proposal aims to develop architectural strategies to address artisans' physical, socio-cultural, and economic needs, enhancing community-based settlements with Community Wealth-Building Facilities. The design seeks to provide adequate living and working spaces, promote skill development, and ensure sustainable tourism while preserving Raghurajpur's cultural and historical significance.
