Abstract

The materials and methods used in the flourishing field of contemporary architecture today are conventional. The lack of time, space, and necessities has caused this conventional system to boom. However, these will eventually suffer greatly in terms of its liveability, energy efficiency, etc. Thus, the requirement for a sustainable practise is raised. Sustainable practice is not widely seen in all typologies of building. Due to considerations of time, economy, space, and necessity, commercial buildings are constructed according to conventional ideologies. In the context of the historical precinct, conventional building materials like steel and concrete are frequently used to construct buildings. Despite this, bylaws stipulate that new construction must blend in harmoniously with the historic building but doesn’t specify on the materials and techniques. A lot of structures are harmoniously constructed by merely employing cladding or paint to enhance their beauty. Numerous factors, such as lack of resources, economics, a decline in craftsmanship, etc., hinder the use of the materials and construction techniques. The association between heritage hotels and luxury need not be synonymous with unattainable costs. The evolving landscape of hospitality allows for a revaluation of how we perceive and offer luxury, opening the doors of heritage hotels to a more diverse audience eager to bask in the splendour of the past without the burden of extravagant expenses Thus, there is a legitimate need for sustainable construction. The heritage precinct's building materials and methods may also be considered when amending the bylaws. This will ensure that the craftsmanship and abilities don't disappear. These traditional methods can be adopted and used prudently in the modern era with its affordability as a parameter.
