Abstract

The HSVP International Convention Center, proposed in Sector 78, Greater Faridabad, is a forward-looking urban development project initiated by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). The center is envisioned as a landmark facility that blends international architectural standards with local cultural identity, aiming to elevate Faridabad's status as a hub for both national and international events. Addressing the region's expanding urban footprint and economic ambitions, the convention center is designed to host a variety of events including conferences, exhibitions, cultural programs, and corporate gatherings. This multifunctionality supports regional economic development and job creation. Occupying a 16-acre site, the design includes major programmatic components such as a 2,500-seat main auditorium, additional halls, plenary chambers, exhibition spaces, restaurants, and administrative areas. The architectural strategy prioritizes flexibility, user-centric planning, and seamless transitions between different functions and audiences. Sustainability is a cornerstone of the project, with features like climate-responsive architecture, energy-efficient systems, and the use of renewable resources. The design also reflects a strong contextual sensitivity by incorporating local cultural references while aligning with global design practices. Public spaces are open, lightfilled, and intuitively planned to encourage interaction and inclusivity. Beyond its function as an event space, the center is intended as a civic anchor that enhances urban connectivity and community engagement, offering spaces usable by the public even outside scheduled events. The design process has been guided by case studies of global benchmarks such as Yashobhoomi, Bharat Mandapam, and centers in Tokyo and Montreal, incorporating best practices in sustainability and innovation. Ultimately, the project aspires to create a future-ready, culturally rooted convention center that not only meets functional needs but also contributes meaningfully to Faridabad’s global identity.
