Abstract: S.M. Street, Calicut as it is better known is Sweet Meat Street. It derives its name from the British rule time when the street was lined with sweetmeat/ halwa stalls then. It is reputedly the busiest street in Kozhikode Now, consisting of variety of shops including textiles, jewellery stores, footwear stores, bakeries and so on. Several buildings remain in a dilapidated condition. Congested business activities and the narrow street, chance of fire hazard in the area is high. The street infrastructure facilities are incapable to handle the present costumers. Calicut Development Authority have come up with proposal for Redevelopment of S.M. Street by Land pooling land along the street. The proposal consisting of Rehabilitation of existing shops, Office spaces, Road widening and Parking Plaza.
