Abstract: In turbulent and insecure times, when everything changes fast, the old spleandour can be like an anchor or a lighthouse that stabilizes people in place and time; which reminds them of their identity and origin. What is considered cultural heritage by one generation may be rejected by the next, but revised by a succeeding generation. One generation’s trash becomes the other generation’s treasure. Heritage is connected with continuity and is voluntary; it is something passed down the generations. This notion is adopted on urban heritage sites, which are secluded from changing social impacts. In many historical patches of the urban fabric, which have existed from their intial stage of development to the present day, the associated meanings and identies have already transformed, with several conductive as well as inhibitive results.
