Abstract: The fundamental nature and structure of places in cities have changed over a period of time. This change is observed at various layers of urban fabric. The formation of change is reflected within series of manufactured forms which are associated with common parameters that are responsible for change. Due to increased rate of transformation, the relationship with pedestrian network is also changing. Diverse transit pattern of urban areas are classified on the basis of their distinct characters, qualities, elements and networking. In India most of the cities were formed because of expansion or development of an existing urban village. These urban villages located in the city and interpreted as a slum area which is equal with slum area, even though it has similar issues. Nowadays in Mumbai there has been real estate pressure of development and privatization scheme for improvement. This study will study about the outdoor spaces in specific urban village i.e. Bandra in Mumbai, intervention to make social space for everyone with different circumstances (time, space, users) The aim of the thesis is to generate the uses of outdoor space for social interaction and activities by working collaboratively with local residents and other stakeholders to understand their needs and proposing new ideas for quality of space and urban identity. The attempt is made towards developing tools to understand the public place network. Methodology includes larger understanding of different scale of affordances and behavior of different spaces. This will create walking atmosphere and encouraging public to use pedestrian network as a fundamental mean of mobility through urban form. The idea is to consider micro public realm of pedestrian network and make it inclusive through urban form in the process of transformation.
