Abstract: In recent years, the aviation industry has seen a huge surge and has become a significant part of our travel options. The terminal building and the overall efficiency of the airport plays a huge role in our overall experience. Airports can be seen as the gateway to the city and is an example of the city’s grandeur and stature . However, most of the Indian airports run at a loss, however, being government projects, they can afford to function as such. This particular project, being a private venture naturally aims to overcome this flaw and come out as a model that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. The design aims to integrate the terminal building into the city fabric by collaborating airport functions and city activities (eg: shopping, theatre etc open to common city dwellers) into a single roof, thus increasing the non-aeronautical revenue generated in the process. Strict horizontal and vertical partitioning along with completely segregated circulation patterns, allows multiple types of users to use the same building without the risk of physical contact or security breach. This allows the city dwellers to view the travelers and other airport activities spread below while they go about their own luxury indulgences.
