Abstract: Research institutes are a new, comparatively under explored typology in architecture. They can be classified as both, service oriented as well as repeting modules. The nature of work undertaken is quite demanding. The laboratories, in themselves, are an important defining members of the architecture of such buildings. The project in consideration is a proposed National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) proposed at Jhalawar, Rajasthan. On the other hand, academic campuses proposed far off of the city fabric have a basic necessity to be frugal and resilient. This provides for establishing a sustainable design, framework and strategies both of which can work together to make a sensible campus long the principles of sustainability. Thus, here the design is initiated with a whole campus integration approach, where different elements are designed with a consideration for making it sustainable. The site in consideration is, also, a far-off located place with no immediate built context. The design has, thus, been worked out with a 'climate as context' theme. At the scale of site design, it is based around working out the water system and preserving it. Sustainability has been attempted to be incorporated at every stage and scale of this project.
