dc.description.abstract | Indian tourism is one of the most diverse products on the global scene. India has one of the richest traditions in creative activities like hand‐woven textiles from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Kuch to Kohima. Handloom weaving is practiced in different regions in India. Each area has its own particular style, using traditional designs and motifs. No matter how small or ordinary a weave may seem; it has its own distinctive character. Handloom is the cultural heritage of our country and hence it is imperative to protect and promote the sector. As the handloom industry is associated with country’s rich tradition, culture and rural life, promotion of Textile Tourism particularly for traditional handloom varieties will not only add value to the visitors in popularizing the versatility of handloom products and its association with Indian culture and pave way for its innovative usage. Handlooms in Tamil Nadu have a long standing tradition and behind the timeless tradition, kept alive for centuries, is the handloom weaver. The main goal of the project is to keep the tradition alive and to highlight the uniqueness of traditional design / weave among the visiting domestic and international tourists. This textile tourism centre will serve as a brand promotion centre and in turn generate employment potential and enthuse more weavers to take up the work thereby strengthening of production base. It will also help in product innovation and adaptation to contemporary western market and develop a passion among next generation both end users and weavers to take up the work. | en_US |
