Abstract: | The Maritime Heritage Museum proposed for Lothal, Gujarat, represents a pivotal endeavour by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, facilitated through the Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL). This project aims to celebrate the rich tapestry of India's maritime history and industry, establishing a world-class National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC). Grounded in the historic port city of Lothal, it promises to be a beacon of cultural preservation and educational enlightenment. Through a comprehensive literature study, this thesis delves into the rich maritime history of India, drawing upon archaeological findings, historical records, the historical significance of Lothal as an ancient port city of the Indus Valley Civilization and its pivotal role in shaping India's maritime trade routes. and cultural narratives to inform the design process. By synthesising this background research with contemporary architectural principles, the proposed museum seeks to seamlessly blend heritage preservation with modern amenities, creating a dynamic space for education and exploration. The Significant features of the project include architectural elements inspired by maritime motifs, sustainable design principles, and innovative multimedia installations to enhance the visitor experience. The design process involves meticulous attention to detail, incorporating elements of sustainable architecture, cultural sensitivity, and accessibility. Emphasis is placed on creating a cohesive narrative that guides visitors through various aspects of maritime heritage, from ancient trade routes to modern shipping technologies. |
