Abstract: The aim for this thesis project is to design a Hill Resort at Solan Himachal Pradesh. According to the stats, it is observed that there is a increase in the tourism in Himachal Pradesh, especially in Solan District. Blessed with a pleasant climate all the year round. Solan is districts headquarter and has the famous temple of Shoolini Devi and from Solan the Jatoli village and the temple of Lord Shiva and on Rajgarh road the Buddhist Monastery may be visited. Known as the "Mushroom city of India" Solan has an old brewery and a sprawling horticulture and forestry university at Nauni. Popularly known as the Devbhumi – "Land of the Gods", Himachal Pradesh is a beautiful hill state in India, nestles in north-west region of western Himalayas. The state is landlocked with the Tibetan plateau to the east, Jammu and Kashmir to the north, and the Punjab to the west. However, the state stands apart from its neighbours in terms of its sheer topographic diversity and breathtaking pristine natural beauty. From vast tracts of high-altitude Trans-Himalayan desert to dense green deodar forests, from apple orchards to cultivated terraces, from snow capped high Himalayan mountain ranges to snow fed lakes and gushing rivers. A resort is a place used for relaxation or recreation, attracting visitors for vacations and/or tourism. Resorts are places, towns or sometimes commercial establishment operated by a single company. So the design must include the concept of inside and outside giving a pleasant stay for the people/tourists. Functional relationship of various spaces in various departments has been described in this report. Site forces, wind and sun path and soil analysis is very important for successful building design and that has been done in detail in this report. The case studies which are done are from Solan and are discussed about their designing, area programming and circulation in this thesis report. The relationship between user and built has been analyzed from the case studies and incorporated in the design.
