Abstract: | India is a diverse country in terms of geographical conditions as well as socio-cultural practices, each region has its type of Vernacular architecture. According to the different climate, geological conditions, and deep-rooted traditions, several distinct architectural features are seen in the dwellings of Tribes of Patalkot. This architecture evolved in a course of time and is built by the inhabitants themselves. The materials used for the construction are available locally and are sensitive to the existing environment. The study highlights the socio-cultural forces which shape the built environment such as livelihood, religious beliefs, lifestyle, and social interaction. The paper will analyze and study the architectural pattern in the stripes through their case studies. The study is an effort undertaken to understand the relationship between the geographical and architectural patterns of these tribes through various factors. The approach adopted in the study is to compare different situations by taking surveys and interviews. This thesis explores the changes of vernacular architecture, its causes, and consequences, and makes suggestions for safeguarding the Bharia community's built environment and Vernacular Architecture. It will make for a smooth transition under the local community's control. |
