Study tour report 1st year B. Arch Section A

Abstract

A Study Tour was conducted with 38 students of B.Arch 1st yr Section A and 3 teachers (Ashish Patil, Sukanta Majumdar, Moumita Das) to Himachal Pradesh from 10th to 18th December 2015. The aim was to introduce the pattern of Hill Architecture of Himachal Pradesh to Students of B.Arch 1st yr Section A considering the human activity pattern based on local context, climatic condition, locally available materials and construction techniques etc. Some Architectural buildings like, Rajdarbar of Kotkhai and Rampur, Buddhist campus of Dharamsala, Shikhara style temple of Chamba, Churches of Chamba and Dalhousie were visited, which may help the students to correlate with future studies. 3 sites were selected from Kotkhai, Janjehli and Pandoh for the purpose of Residence design. Students may select one of them for design in the next Sem. Structural aspect and construction with local materials were explained to students wherever possible. One student went back home due to health problem at the initial stage of the journey.
