Abstract: Ageing is a universal and inevitable phenomenon of life. It refers to a multidimensional process of physical, psychological and social changes."Old age" refers to a phase of human life known for reduced physical ability, declining mental ability, the gradual giving up of role playing in socio‐ economic activities, and a shift to a status of economic dependence. The last century has witnessed a rapid increase in the population of the elderly people1 which leads to increasing demand of senior living. Seniors desire to live right in the homes and communities where they resided for years and do not wish to opt for senior housing. A large stumbling block for senior living in India is the social stigma attached to the concept of senior living communities because such communes are commonly referred to as “Old Age Homes”. In recent scenario the image of senior living has changed. A significant section of these seniors are independent, financially stable, well travelled and socially connected. Now, elderly willingly opt for independent living, to enjoy their retired life. In India the concept of luxurious independent senior housing is very new and very few luxury housings have been developed. These independent and active senior living projects that are currently being offered in India have been accepted whole heartedly by some section of targeted population, a lot more ground needs to be covered to make this concept acceptable universally.
