Industrial areas and their development scenario: a case of AKVN Bhopal

Abstract

In India, there has been a tremendous increase in industrial sector with increasing new industrial areas flourishing, making a major change in industrial growth pattern. The industrial estates are having spatial diversities also disparities, there is development from different aspects, such as economic, social and physical and these all have an overall spatial impact in growth of industrial area. The study desires to seek out the spatial growth of the industrial areas, say in terms of growth, transformation and potential over the period of time. The spatial designing for upgradation of industries has become the priority of states to satisfy the inter-industrial demand, generation of financial gain and provision of facilities like physical and social infrastructure for the population growing up with time because of which the industrial estates have flourished. The need to present a study on development of industrial areas emerged as many industrial area have been developing in the state of Madhya Pradesh of India, since it was a backward state, state government took initiatives to develop the state, to bring out and use the state’s potential in terms of labour and raw material and gain a good place in economic development scenario in India. A study has been done to find out about AKVN Bhopal, its structure and responsibilities. In this study the most efficient industrial area has been found using a statistical model to show the efficiency of all industrial areas, using parameters as, number of units, capital and labour. The study is also focussed the most efficient industrial area at micro level, showing the level of development happening after industrial establishments, which have led the small settlement a huge success today. In this process how the industrial area has changed its land use, and built up growth over the years, what land parcel has been changed majorly, and which are the supporting infrastructure supporting the industrial area, making it functional and growing, also discussed. How did the agency which is assigned for development of infrastructure of the areas under AKVN has helped the industrial facilities grow, as well as the municipality must have played a role at its level, and how well did the two in sync bring out the overall growth of industrial area. Also, the growth in the lives of people living around, say there may be a shift in lifestyle of people from the metro city nearby. What occupation changes happened in lives of farmers who sold their land to the government? The advancements which happened in the industrial area are to be measured as the contribution of the industries being set up and upgrading the economy and physical and social infrastructure of the area and surrounding region. Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (AKVN), Bhopal (a subsidiary of MPTRIFAC Ltd.) was established in October, 1987. It has the important accountability of Industrial promotion through growth of Industrial Growth Centres in the form of land bank management, selling land parcels, constructing and maintaining the infrastructure in the form of power, road length, water supply, and operation and maintenance of facilities, collecting revenue, and promoting industrial schemes in road shows and other road shows for promotion. Bhopal city has beautiful scenic landscapes and a good economy and lifestyle is in balance making it one of the best cities in Madhya Pradesh, to reside in. The study area is the eight districts, from which the ones having established industrial areas is the scope of study. The objectives of this study are - to study the industrial structure of the AKVN Bhopal region, to study the spatial temporal change of land use and built up growth of the study area. To find the role of industries coming up in an area and major changes in forms of social and physical development are happening in the study area. Major findings will be the industrial areas with their profile and the selection of Bhopal AKVN. The land use change over the years and built up growth to show the impact of industries in spatially. The industries are having a role in development of industrial region around them which might also have some problems and issues, which has been addressed in proposals and the strategies are given to plan the industrial area in such a manner which will help in increasing the productivity of the industrial area and overall development of the region.
