Abstract

This international conference was organized with the objective of examining theoretical and philosophical approaches to conserving urban heritage in cities where historic forms and meanings intersect with cultural practices on the one hand, and contemporary needs as places for living and working on the other. The various sessions were held under the themes of: Conserving Living Historic Cities: Theories and Values; Authenticity and Integrity in Historic towns; Theoretical Considerations on Living Urban Heritage in South Asia; Theoretical Approaches to Conservation of Living Urban; and Living Historic Cities and Inclusive Development. Amongst the eminent speakers of the conference were Nalini Thakur, Neelkanth Chhaya, A.G.K Menon, Gurmeet Rai, Moe Chiba, K.T Ravindran and Jyoti Hosagrahar to name a few. Deliberations were made for points of considerations for the Indian Heritage Charter. The conference was followed by optional tours on each day: food walk to Frazer Town area of Bangalore and Malleshwaram heritage walk.
