Study tour report 3rd year B. Arch Section B

Abstract

Study Tour of 36 students of 3RD B.Arch (Section B) to Chandigarh-Dharamshala from 10th to 18th December 2015 was conducted along with Ar. Shushil Solanki and P. Madhavi (R.A.) The aim was to study service oriented buildings and getting exposure of town planning and housing pattern at planes of Chandigarh and Hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh. At Chandigarh, Hotel (The Lalits) was visited with aim to see backbones (like housekeeping, AC Plant room, fire fighting system, Pool, Parking, Electrical & Plumbing services, etc.). Another study was at PGI Chandigarh in which, student in small groups studied various hospitals of the campus (Such as, Trauma, Eye, Dental, General, OPD, etc.) Student also benefited to get a presentation on hospital design by local architect (Ar. Sangeet Sharma) before visit to PGI. Visit to capitol complex, state museum, Le-Corbusier center and experiences of city roads (v7) were motivational to understand planned city. At Dharamshala, apart from the sightseeing of nature at Mcleodganj and visit to some famous Architectural buildings like, Buddhist Monastery, temples & Churches and Kangda fort, student have also conducted study of NADDI Village to understand settlements in hilly regions (2000 mtrs ASL)with local climatic context along with visual documentation of vernacular design of a typical house of the village. All the studies conducted will be helpful in coming semester to design service oriented buildings and subjects like housing and town planning will also get some benefits.
