The contemporary urban landscape is witnessing a notable transformation with the integration of public spaces within private domains, termed urban commons or collaborative spaces. This paper delves into the intricate interplay of social and spatial challenges arising from this phenomenon, focusing specifically on riverfronts as a prime example. By analysing various urban development projects and their impact, including urban parks, cultural districts, and mixed-use developments, this study identifies riverfronts as pivotal spaces capable of encapsulating the essence of diverse urban endeavours. The strategic integration of riverfronts with urban landscapes offers a promising avenue for creating multifaceted spaces that harmonize nature, culture, commerce, education, and community engagement. However, challenges such as limited public access, visual monotony, and safety concerns due to vehicular traffic must be addressed to optimize their potential. A revaluation of design strategies is essential to ensure accessible, dynamic, and pedestrian-friendly waterfronts aligned with evolving urban needs.en_US
