Wetlands are called as “the kidneys of the landscape”. (CST, n.d.). Munderikkadavu is one of the important wetlands in the district of Kannur, Kerala. The wetland is formed by Munderi River which joins with Valapattanam River before it meets Arabian Sea, at Kattampally. The wetland area has already been declared as a Bird Sanctuary by the State Government. The area is highly enriched with varied species of birds, dragonflies, butterflies, grasses, etc. The wetland ecosystem is facing degradation due to human interventions like deforestation, pollution, encroachment, etc. This thesis intends to state the importance of the Munderikkadavu wetland ecosystem and the needs of its restoration. It also goes through the procedure for the restoration and also states how important is the relation between the culture and nature for the successful functioning of an ecosystem.en_US
