Abstract
The Elderly are a vital part of the society who deserve respect and equality like any other section of the society. Concerns related to the elderly have been surfacing over the years, even more so as the ‘young old’ section of society is exponentially increasing due to increased life expectancy. It is integral to focus on the needs of the senior citizen as aging is an inevitable and continuous process. The studies have demonstrated a strong association between the artist's intangible art and their tangible-built environment, which is central to their efficient working and living environment. Artists are not known for retiring at the age of 60, however they undergo the physical and mental transformation like all. This calls for design interventions, to create spaces that assist their livelihood and support the transition into old age with minimum barriers. This Thesis is a design solution to the proposal put forward for retired artists in Goa. It focuses on the holistic development of the user group and the necessity of spaces that keep the ‘motivation to create’ alive in them parallelly achieving healthy aging through architecture.
