Abstract

This thesis focuses on the intersection between agriculture and tourism in which production and consumption come together in the form of wine tourism. Wine tourism is an experience which can be conceptualized at different geographical scales and which involves visitor perceptions of physical landscapes and built environment, as well as human interactions. Wine tourism is a fairly new phenomenon, tied closely to the increase in wine consumption in India. Wine tourism has the ability to help develop regional economies as well as add dramatic depth to rural economies. This thesis aims to propose a new design for a well-established winery in Igatpuri, Nashik district of India. The thesis intends to design a experiential wine tourist destination that creates a unique tourist experience for the visitors of the winery. Also, to strengthen the social character of the company while integrating cultural functions as well as attracting tourists to this peculiar wine hub. Wine is the core of the design, so the production has to be clearly organized and uncompromised. In the same sense, different sets of experiences for visitors have to be continuously and thoughtfully built up. The contrasts between the industrial and residential together with well-considered flows have formed a driving force for the design.
