Abstract

The burgeoning issue of plastic waste has prompted a critical need for innovative solutions that address its environmental impact while leveraging its potential for positive transformation. This thesis explores the design and implementation of a Plastic Upcycling Center in Indore, India, as a proactive response to the pressing global challenge of plastic pollution. The research delves into the unique context of Indore, a rapidly urbanising city facing the repercussions of escalating plastic waste accumulation. By examining existing waste management systems, environmental policies, and community engagement initiatives, the study identifies key opportunities and challenges in establishing a dedicated facility for plastic upcycling. Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines architectural design, environmental science, and social advocacy, this thesis offers a comprehensive framework for the establishment and operation of a Plastic Upcycling Center in Indore. By envisioning a future where waste becomes a valuable resource for creativity and regeneration, the study advocates for a paradigm shift in waste management practices, catalysing positive change towards a more sustainable and resilient urban environment.
