| dc.description.abstract | Open prisons have relatively less stringent rules as compared to the controlled jails. They go by many names like minimum-security prison, open air camps or prison without bars. The fundamental rule of an open prison is that the jail has minimum security and functions on the self-discipline of the inmates. All Open and Semi-open institutions are intended to put into practice the contemporary ideology of reformation, correction and rehabilitation of convicted prisoners so that they may lead a self-disciplined and cultured life after release. This Thesis aims to provide the prisoners opportunities of employment and living a life in the open along with their families. This restores dignity of the individual and develops in him /her selfreliance, self-confidence and social responsibility, which are necessary for his/her, rehabilitation in the society. This efficient rehabilitation back into the society in turn will help in a proper and hopeful reformation of the convict. | en_US |
