dc.description.abstract52nd ISOCARP congress was held in Durban, South Africa from 12-16 September, 2016 with the theme: Cities we Have vs. Cities we Need. This year’s congress was constituted of 2 plenary sessions with 3 keynote speakers who presented their views regarding the main congress theme. These include Professor Vanessa Watson, from South Africa; Dr Michael Hardman, based in the UK and Nicholas You from Italy/China. About 160 papers, from 41 countries, from 6 continents, were presented at the congress. The papers were presented in 6 concurrent tracks, each having 6 sessions, on the 13th, 14th and 15th of September, 2016. The tracks were (i) Transforming Human Settlements (ii) Planning Activism and Social Justice (iii) Planning Theory and Practice for the Next Decades (iv) Planning and Policy during times of Uncertainty (v) Intelligent Cities for People (vi) Planning for an interlinked and integrated rural-urban developmenten_US
