Abstract:
Museum these days are not only about art works or exhibits, but more about the building itself.
One feature of modern museum work is a pluralistic approach both to the visitors and to the
exhibits. Goa is defined by its rich culture heritage and tourist attractions, many artists portrays
Goa as a place which facilitates them with the absolute atmosphere they require to practice art.
Thus having a project like modern art museum will provide the state a platform to holds the
state-of-the-art facility to address every aspect of preserving it along with the exhibition of
modern art. The museum building offers a much larger scope of free design and interpretation
than any other project of similar area specifications and other aspects.
The aim of the thesis is to bring, under a single roof, two broad area of work: collection,
preserving and exhibition of artifacts and various art forms both from India and abroad. The
iconic landmark building will be something more than just a place for exhibition of artifacts, in
addition it will be planned as a cultural hub, and a location of attraction for both art lovers and
tourists. The thesis aims to make the museum as place with a notion of “a design destined to
become a destination”.
The thesis will help me to explore the spaces required for exhibitions and how to create the
atmosphere of a museum like transition spaces. It will help me in understanding the social and
cultural heritage and art setting of the region and explore the implementations of art and
culture on building design.
