Abstract:
The care for the elderly through significant architecture can contribute them to live happy and
respectful life. Also this platform will encourage them to be self-dependent and promoting the
care for the old citizens.
Thus, the research aimed to formulate design strategies for independent and safe living for
elderly. The care for elderly can be given by understanding the needs of elderly that can be
defined majorly in two ways- physical health needs and mental health needs. Hence, both the
physiological and psychosocial/psychological aspects are discussed in the study. To understand
the psychosocial aspects some supporting theories of old age are also mentioned. On the basis of
these aspects (physiological and psychosocial) the issues/needs of elderly are identified. After
analyzing these issues/needs of elderly some architectural requirements are found that fosters the
care for elderly in terms of psychosocial aspects.
Hence, the research considered all these issues/needs of the elderly and suggest some
architectural requirements that can help to make the successful architecture for their living. Then
how to incorporate these requirements in design some case studies are taken as examples. As a
result on the basis of whole study finalizing some design strategies for making successful built
environment of an old age living.
The care for elderly is not just about to give them physical care by providing ramps and other
accessibility measures, they also want mental care having some psychological issues, which is
necessary to address. Hence, the main purpose of the study is to fulfill their psychosocial/
psychological aspects for healthy and active old age living.
