Abstract:
The thesis project is a design proposal for a 200 bedded “180 BEDDED GENERAL
HOSPITAL AT PANVEL, NAVI MUMBAI”, India. The project is an actual real life project
being developed by the development authority ‘CIDCO’ (City and Industrial Development
Corporation). The mission of the Authority is to plan and create environment-friendly, model
urban settlements with full-fledged physical and social infrastructure to meet residential,
commercial and industrial needs in Navi Mumbai. The Authority is committed towards
improving the health scenario in Navi Mumbai and is also engaged in the development of
health infrastructure across Navi Mumbai. This thesis has tried to follow a strict methodology
based on widely accepted and commonly used design theories and methodologies in the field
of healthcare architecture. At the same time, this thesis focusses on functional, aesthetical and
spatial planning and design while allowing the maximum exposure to the nature. Hence
making the whole institution, a place where environment plays major role in healing the
patients psychologically and thus inducing a faster self-healing process in the patients,
Keeping these ideas in mind, an extensive literature study and study of the case studies have
been done regarding establishing healing environment in the hospital, functional, aesthetical
and spatial planning. To maintain proper functionality in extreme complex building like
hospitals where so many activities go together creating many complex nodes, propoer placing
of various departments have been kept in mind. This has been done to provide the reader with
clear idea of how the whole thesis was conceived from the starting to the end.
