Abstract:
There is increased rate of crime against women which is getting attention from all over the
world. The government and society are poorly handling this whole issue. Abuse against women
is a curse for the mankind which has been existing in our society since ages. In India assault
against women has become so common that even a child below 3 years of age is getting raped
and tortured. Recent incidents of rape have disturbed the conscience of the nation. India is
poorly handling the protection of its women. Rape accounts for about 12% of all crimes against
women. Worldwide, there are very limited options for rehabilitation in comparison to the
number of cases occurring. According to the present scenario of this heinous crime in India, the
first step which needs to be taken is the need of being addressed when it comes to battling
assault against women.
“There are far too many silent sufferers. Not because they don't learn to reach out, but because
they've tried and found no one who cares.”

Greco and Weschler (2010) state that there is a relationship between housing insecurity and
assault against women, especially if victims have been jeopardized by some intimate partner or
close family member. People suffering from assault find it difficult to cope up with day to day
activity as they suffer from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). For example, they become
afraid of leaving home alone, and therefore miss work, because of which they can lose their job
and have nowhere to go. Home often is not safe for many survivors. Survivors need a safe place
for emotional and psychological recovery. Hence, existing horrendous situation of today is
demanding out the need for rehabilitation of those being abused physically, emotionally,
psychologically.
