Abstract:
The Tea Museum in Siliguri aims to capture the cultural significance of the rich heritage of
tea in India and the explicit tea cultures around the globe. The museum focuses on engaging
the visitor through active participation and observation of spaces. The conceptualisation of
the design roots it’s foundation on experiential quality of spaces that prioritize user comfort
and learning.
Museum Design has been a complicated area of study as the role of museums has always
been evolving. Various challenges and considerations imply when designing a museum.
Hence, it becomes crucial to study the various parameters that affect the interaction of
visitors and the museum spaces.
The museum is divided into 5 major zones: Cultural, Landscape, Industrial, Commercial and
Research. Each zone has a unique character and purpose to serve. Another highlight of the
design is the landscape integration.
The project is inclined to boost economic opportunities in the estate. Also, the museum shall
create awareness amongst the tea labourers and improve their quality of living. It shall also
serve as an incredible stop for the tourists to halt and explore the rich cultural depiction of
tea.
