dc.description.abstract The creative cities network is structured around seven themes, namely literature, cinema, music, crafts and folk art, design, media arts, and gastronomy. This allows the cities to showcase their talent on a global level, make creativity an essential element of local economic and social development, build local capacity and train local cultural actors in business skills and promote diverse cultural products in national and international markets. The major aim of the study if to give recommendations for incorporating creative city based spatial development in a development plan. The existing scenario of creative clusters and its spatial development requirements have to be assessed. The economic potential of creative city based spatial development needs to be identified. The study focusses on enhancing the creative, social and economic potential of creative industries held by local actors and therefore promote cultural diversity. Creative cities can foster income generation, job creation and export earnings while promoting social inclusion, cultural diversity and human development. They consist of a set of knowledge-based economic activities with a development dimension and cross-cutting linkages at macro and micro levels to the overall economy. These are a feasible option for innovation, multidisciplinary policy responses and interministerial action. This economic potential of the cities needs to be identified and promoted spatially for a creative city-based development. The study consists of identification of various creative industries present in the city of Pune and the creative belt formed by these industries. This belt has been analysed and the issues faced by these industries, traffic congestion, air and noise pollution, etc. have been taken into consideration. For this, various studies such as speed and delay, tracking of noise pollution data using mobile applications, and a primary survey to get a rough estimate of employment in various sectors have been conducted. Placemaking strategies have been applied to make the city more vibrant and generate more economy. These mainly aim at increasing tourism and providing employment to a large section of society. These strategies focus on increasing thev per capita green space and decreasing pollution levels, restoring heritage areas to promote tourism and adaptive reuse to generate more economy, and proposing new recreation areas for the same. To control congestion, bicycles are encouraged and pedestrianization has been done. These strategies will make the city more liveable, vibrant and promote economic growth. en_US
