dc.description.abstract This thesis project deals with the various stages involved in the process of designing Socio-Cultural Centre, Dwarka in Zone II. The project is a real proposal by the DDA located In Sector 11 of Dwarka in front of Residential Area surrounded by Apartments and Market places of sector – 10. Extensive case studies are conducted for a better understanding of the functional, structural and aesthetic aspects of the typology and similar projects. Site Study is conducted for in depth knowledge of the site constraints and opportunities. Since, the proposed project is meant to be a state level socio-cultural hub, in depth study of the city of Delhi is conducted for an understanding of geo-climatic, demographic and socio-cultural aspects of the region. The thesis involves architectural designing of the site from the site planning stage onwards to final design consideration of preparing detailed plans, sections, elevations and 3d renderings. Located adjacent to a DDA Sports Complex and amidst residential areas , it would come up as a great opportunity for the community to live and possess the modern culture and express their social needs or demands in the form of art. The project comes under public private partnership category , therefore half the site is already proposed by DDA which accommodates a number of retail stores and a large space for auditoriums in order to generate the revenue. Another half of the site is proposed for socio-cultural activities which come under the scope of this thesis project. The function of the space consists of a performing art centre, visual art center and a block for literary arts and administration. The performing art centre consists of an auditorium which accommodates 600 viewers at a time; different theatre, dance forms and cinema produced by budding artists can be presented. The visual art centre consists of multiple art galleries,l showcasing contemporary arts, sculpture art, photography, historical arts and abstract art. Small studios are also provided for the aspirants to learn the art form, from artists. A cafeteria is also a part of the building which gives the facility for refreshment and also attracts local crowds and helps in generating ample revenue. The form of the thesis project is kept geometric such that it merges with the surrounding and the other half of the site .There’s a hierarchy of built and unbuilt spaces, courtyards have been introduced to ensure natural lighting and ventilation throughout the building en_US
