Abstract:
This design thesis deals with an amalgamated design problem of a modern educational
institute in the context of a religious background. Sanchi university of Buddhist-Indic studies
are to be a centre for knowledge and interpretation on an international level. The flavour of
design is a complex one as it has to deal with religious beliefs and philosophies side by side
with the functionality of a modern centre for imparting education in the field of religious
studies.
Understanding the behaviour of a person in an environment of religious depth was a major
challenge that has been overcome with a design approach which has evolved from the very
core the philosophies. The balance between built and un-built has been understood and
delivered to meet the context.
The freedom of choosing the usability of a place has been experimented with where a user is
a major ingredient in deciding the mood of a space.
As an educational institute the design provides several interactive and social spaces of
various hierchies and helps students and teachers to learn and teach better.
