dc.description.abstract This thesis project focuses on the need for adaptive reuse of historical buildings to preserve their cultural and historical significance while providing modern amenities for the community. It specifically explores the case of the Commonwealth Trust Handloom Factory in Kozhikode, which played a significant role in the social and economic development of the region during the British colonial period but is currently under threat from the land mafia. The project proposes repurposing the factory as a cultural and heritage center that promotes local handicrafts and traditional weaving techniques, while providing space for community events and workshops. The project requires collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders, including heritage conservation organizations and weaving communities, to ensure sustainable and inclusive development. The significant features of the project include preserving the authenticity of the structure and its historical significance, empowering local communities, and promoting sustainable tourism and economic development. The project aims to showcase the potential of adaptive reuse as a means of preserving cultural heritage while promoting community development and empowerment. en_US
