dc.description.abstract Lonar Lake situated in Lonar town and located in the district of Buldana, Maharashtra is one of the most popular attractions of the region. This lake was formed as a result of a meteor that bombarded the earth some 52,000 years ago. It is theorized that the chemical constituents of the meteor along with the regional soil, give the lake both saline and alkaline properties at different points. Lonar crater is the only natural impact crater formed in basaltic rock. The crater is one of the five largest craters in the world and measures 1830 m in diameter and 150 m deep. Lonar crater has water in it. The water in the crater is 10 times saltier than drinking water (pH = 10.5). The unique nature of the lake has made it a subject of several studies and researches conducted by ecologists, geologists, naturalists and even astronomers. Some of renowned institutions that have conducted researches here include names like United States Geological Survey, Geological Society of India and University of Sagar. In spite of such a great importance the area lacks development in terms of tourist facilities and amenities, therefore through various analysis and study the thesis focuses on developing the existing scenario of Lonar Lake as tourist destination by providing facilities and amenities for the tourists. en_US
