Abstract

This thesis delves into the critical relationship between integrated cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and ridership on the Nagpur Metro, a landmark public transport development in the city. The research meticulously explores how the presence of dedicated cycling tracks and well-maintained footpaths, strategically planned along the metro corridor and major roads, influences ridership trends. By analyzing existing ridership data, conducting surveys and interviews with commuters, and utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial analysis, the study sheds light on the factors that impact user preferences for these integrated services.Recognizing the multifaceted benefits of a well-integrated transportation system, the thesis investigates the potential for congestion reduction, improved public health outcomes, and a more vibrant and livable urban environment. It explores how a seamless network of cycling tracks and pedestrian walkways can act as a catalyst for ridership growth on the Nagpur Metro, ultimately fostering a more sustainable urban mobility landscape. Through in-depth analysis of the Nagpur Metro case, the research aims to glean valuable insights and best practices. These learnings can then be strategically applied to inform future urban planning decisions, promote public transport usage, and ultimately cultivate a more connected and sustainable city for its residents. This thesis aims to analyze the influence of integrated cycling and pedestrian infrastructure on the ridership of the Nagpur Metro, a significant public transport development in the city.
