dc.description.abstract This project envisions the establishment of a Self-Sustaining Eco-Park with an integrated Skill Development and Innovation Centre in New Delhi, aimed at empowering ragpickers and sanitation workers. The initiative focuses on transforming waste into valuable resources, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering social inclusion. The Eco-Park will serve as a hub for recycling and upcycling activities, where waste materials are repurposed into eco-friendly building components such as Eco bricks, recycled wood, recycled steel, recycled glass, plastic blocks, shipping containers and plastic bottles densely packed with non-biodegradable waste to create reusable building blocks .These materials will be utilized in constructing the park's infrastructure, demonstrating practical applications of waste-derived building materials. The Skill Development and Innovation Centre within the park will offer training programs for ragpickers and sanitation workers, equipping them with skills in waste management, recycling techniques, and sustainable product design. By providing education and hands-on experience, the centre aims to facilitate the transition of these workers into formal employment sectors, enhancing their livelihoods and social status. Moreover, the project aligns with existing governmental efforts, such as the Delhi government's initiative to establish an e-waste eco-park, which seeks to integrate informal waste workers into formal recycling processes. By collaborating with organizations like Sulabh International, known for promoting environmental sanitation and social reforms through education, the project aims to create a replicable model for sustainable urban development. In summary, the Self-Sustaining Eco-Park with Skill Development and Innovation Centre aspires to address environmental challenges and social disparities by transforming waste into resources and empowering marginalized communities through education and employment.
