Abstract:
The present report details out the design process at all
stages of final year architectural design project titled "Indian
Culinary Institute" proposed at Noida by the Ministry of
Tourism, Government of India.
Food is a common ground for every human being along
with shelter and clothing. This universal experience is no
longer just a necessity. It is an art, a representation of culture
and geography, a summation of history and identity.
The thesis project is to design the Indian culinary institute
proposed in Noida by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of
India.
Culinary refers to 'of or for cooking'. Culinary institute
refers to a place where one can learn culinary arts. Culinary
arts include the skills to cook and present food as well as
knowledge of various ingredients. It also includes skills to run
a commercial establishment and maintain the ethics of the
food service industry.
The design thesis project is centered on two ideas - need
for a space to acquire culinary knowledge and th e otherINDIAN CULINARY INSTITUTE, NOIDA Page v
being simply savoring the culinary delights. Architecturally it
can be said "to design a place to learn about food (culinary
arts) and eat the prepared food". This emphasizes on the fact
that even though the project is an institutional project, it shall
be a food service establishment open to public.
The uniqueness of the project apart from its concept is
that it is the first of its kind to be proposed which shall be
architecturally manifested in India. This raises the challenge
and establishes the objective to identify the unique
requirements and create a successful composition.
