dc.description.abstract The purpose of the study is to manage the wastewater of East Delhi. The main focus was on three aspects of wastewater management that are wastewater generation, disposal and treatment. The aspect of wastewater generation attempts to evaluate the amount of wastewater generation and problems caused by it. Further, the aspect of wastewater disposal and treatment evaluates the efficiency of the sewerage network present in the area and existing treatment capacity to analyse the potential to redevelop the network for future population and increase the efficiency of the treatment of wastewater. The study has been limited to NCT of Delhi only and no interference of neighbouring states, i.e., Uttar Pradesh and Haryana has been considered. Wastewater generation has been evaluated on the basis of population and water supply per capita per day and treatment of wastewater has been analysed on the parameters of BOD, TSS and dissolved sulphide in the wastewater. After analysing the above aspects of the wastewater management problems has been identified. The problems of wastewater disposal and treatment were analysed which was the growing gap between generation and treatment of wastewater. Further, the disposal of wastewater is a problem, as the disposal is directly into the river Yamuna of both treated and untreated water. These problems were addressed and solved through interventions and proposals to increase the efficiency of treatment of wastewater and minimise the disposal of wastewater to river Yamuna by certain proposals for recycling and reuse of treated wastewater. Overall, the aspects considered and evaluated in the thesis indicated that the study area can increase the efficiency of wastewater disposal and treatment and help in controlling the pollution in river Yamuna by adopting the proposed interventions while being legally and logically reasonable. en_US
