Abstract:
Shelter is one of the basic requirements of human beings and it is the most significant built form in the urban landscape. Comfortable shelter for each and every household is a fundamental requirement for a healthy living in any society. Along with housing requirements proper habitat and comfortable environment are also essential factors to be thought of. But in contemporary Indian scenario open spaces in multi-storied housing are not very well thought. Typical floor plans are stacked one above the other in order to utilize maximum available space and achieve maximum number of dwelling units. In all this money-making race basic needs of a user get faded and now it has become a habit to live in such congested spaces which even cannot facilitate their personal health social wellbeing. This affects them in both physical (health issues) and psychological manner. This is a result of which we get congested spaces in apartment and the only open spaces available would be the park on ground floor and the club house provided. In spite of all this, it can be catered by providing hierarchy of open spaces in multi-storied housing depending upon floor wise, clusters wise, building wise, etc. Hence, I need to provide a prototype or an example for a city to look at and for builders and architect to take initiatives to increase the housing standards by providing open spaces on vertical face of housing structure.
