dc.description.abstract Presently, Landfill sites are one of the most polluted sites on earth. Dangerous to human and environmental health, these have been designated no-go sites to minimize damaging effects to the human body. However this still leaves us with the ever present issue of piling wastes; issues which are recognized by many. To tackle them, many engineered technologies have been developed to treat landfill sites such to reduce their harmful impacts. The proposed site in question is a landfill site in Pune, India which has been closed since 2001. Despite this, the site presents a nuisance to the surroundings via underground leaching and a breeding ground for insects. PMC has a treatment proposal on the works, the methodology of which has been discussed with Dr. S. R. Maley, who has been a pioneer in the field of bioremediation. Bioremediation as a treatment is cost effective and provides a 100% remediation to the ecological issues. This site has a huge potential to serve the neighbourhood as an important public space. The decision for a public space is already undertaken by the PMC. The design of the urban park is the result of an extensive survey understanding the needs of the people living there. Connecting the site to the nearby hill will convert this space into a city level open space where people can indulge in recreational activities. en_US
