Goa, a melting pot of tourism and culture, is replete in the production of Handmade Artifacts and
craft items. Several Artisans and Craftsman, through various government initiatives have been
able to get a revered platform for them to showcase their work of art. The need to promote these
crafts is imperative both in terms of generating employment opportunities and also creating a
platform for them to represent their profound culture to a global market. In a time where
technological innovations are galloping at a lightning pace, the essence of ‘hand woven and
designed’ products is rare and should be preserved. The dexterity of these people with their craft
is something that represents the true spirit of India, much like a sacred ritual performed with
extreme diligence and love.
Goa Bazaar, a special project by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, is the
contemporary interpretation of a traditional Goan market, at the same time it focuses on a
shift in trend from responsive to adaptive architecture. The design is proposal which
comprehends the technology and science for making a smart bazaar which adapts to the ever
evolving and growing nature of the city. The bazaar which not only augments shoppers shopping
experience preventing fatigue.
The bazaar also focuses on concept of upcycling of the discarded material, use of locally
available materials and reiterating the traditional characteristics of Goan marketplaces and their
inherent charm. |
