Abstract:
Each culture and era have their distinctive style of art and architecture and their unique representation of ideologies. In this context, Hindu temples have their own paradigm of their own knowledge, culture, art, architecture. This article will provide the simple introduction about the Indian temples and then zoom down to Bhumija temples and its architecture. It will also talk about the region in which Bhumija temples were spread and then zoom down to the Malwa and Nimad region of Madhya Pradesh. Then it will go through with the brief explanation about the region and then focus on the site and its name. Then will explain the architectural elements of the Bhumija temples. The article then talks about the Bhumija with respect to its meaning and references in literature. Then, as the title of the thesis suggests the article will focus on the temple village of Un, Khargone (Madhya Pradesh). The thesis will talk about the architecture of temples at Un and understand the typologies of temple present at the site and their relation with surrounding. Thesis will discuss the about the region and the culture and the tradition of the region and how both tangible and intangible can be interlinked and worked together. At the end it will talk about the strategies for the conservation of the temples and the historic village of Un, Khargone.
