Abstract:
The Mandi system (Wholesale farm produce seller) is India's oldest and complex service-based systems. A lot of stakeholders in this system ensure that its functioning is kept smooth. It also employs many people whilst serving farm produce to various locations further away from it. However, this system is not without its flaws. Wastage, poor hygiene, over-crowding, price increase at every step, artificially increasing price using cold storage and produce which is not fresh are some of these problems. Middleman reduces earning of the farmer drastically.
This project aims to eliminate the middleman and dependence on the wholesale market while also retaining critical stakeholders within the service, thereby protecting their livelihood. User can access the service through an App front-end with a separate login for different stakeholders in the service. The App will ensure the selling of farm produce is maximized by helping with commercial selling. Users will be encouraged to buy from these farmers as the farm produce will be fresh, economical and help reduce carbon footprint by lowering travel distance from farm to homes. Transparency between user and farmer increases by showing the location of delivery transport at each step.
