Abstract:
The growth of MICE industry and the scope of economic growth due to it is considerable in a city like Kochi which is the economical capital of Kerala with a good connectivity, best of medical facilities, scope of fusion of business with leisure due to the tourism potential of the state, presence of good hotel brands and the presence of technology companies. The exhibitions and gatherings which happen in temporary structures setup in open grounds across the district causes huge loss and they are prone to fire and other hazards which can cause
loss of human life. That is when the GCDA is proposing an International exhibition cum convention centre in the open ground in front of JNI stadium which is a prime location with good connectivity and presence of luxury hotels in the proximity.The design has to stick to the requirement and brief provided while being responsive to the understandings and inferences obtained during the background studies on the site and locality. The overall scheme of the proposed design is to have an exhibition cum convention centre of international standards while it being useful for the local residents as well as international visitors and delegates. It is tried to incorporate spaces and programmes which can attract public to a certain extend and keep the building live throughout the week. The flexibility in usage of halls is taken in to consideration while designing in the limitations of the site.
